Glam , Bam…Thank you Ma’am: Knaps can make it happen.

Every now and, then we ladies need or just want to give our hairdos an update. We do it because of trends, to finalize a head to toe makeover, change in season, holidays, big events (wedding for example), birthdays and, even based on emotions. Basically a woman’s hair is her crowning glory. To dress it up gives a boost in confidence and, self-esteem. A new hairstyle can help us through a life changing event, either by making us feel better after a break up or to celebrate reaching an accomplished goal or big promotion at work. Because this is a lifelong routine for most of us, we often look to different resources including beauty publications for inspiration. Pages are torn out and, brought forth to hair professionals because of wanting to be transformed into a bomb beauty. In my ongoing hair journey I discovered a great salon to get the job done, Knaps Unisex salon located at 854 Nostrand Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11225. Here are some comparisons of magazine cover hairstyles with Knaps Unisex great work to use as references. Enjoy :)
Jill Scott short hairdo is a good look and, Knaps can replicate this look and, give you the results you crave.

Make this famous Rihanna hairdo your own. Instead of coloring your entire head a fiery red, use this bold color to accentuate your gorgeous locks or use subtle red highlights to tone it down.

Elaborate, glamorous, show stopping are words to use for this very unique updo that Knaps will be more than happy to recreate for you.

Nicki Minaj didn’t create this style but made it her own by making it famous. You can follow in her foot steps by doing the same.

I hope this helped your creative juices flow with great ideas to bring to your Knaps professional stylist. Come in to our salon with the old you and, out with the new.Book an appointment at (718)467-5175, follow us on Facebook.com/Knapsunisex and, Twitter.com/Knapsunisex. See you soon.

Natural Hair Celebrity

Pre-poo, co-wash, plopping, sealing, BC (big chop) and, 2nd day hair is jargon that may be a bit perplexing to those outside the natural hair community, in which I’ve been a part of for over a year now. This community has been a great deal of help and support when I needed it. The amount of members within it is growing rapidly. I can’t go a day now without seeing someone rocking natural tresses and it makes me feel that I’m not alone in my journey and, is inspiring because I don’t feel pressured to conform within this mainstream society. Celebrities that I’m noticing are also joining the movement but some have been a part of it for a good amount of years. Since I’ve become natural myself I have appreciated beauty a bit more and all of its many aspects. Here is a highlight of black celebrities wearing their hair natural.
The young and beautiful
I have been following Salonge since she made the switch and, have to admit that she has become my natural hair crush. I just discovered this picture of her sister Beyonce’ and had to show you guys. Don’t know for an absolute fact whether she is or ever has been natural throughout her career but it looks good on her.

Poster child
I love this picture of Ms. Erykah Badu I can’t wait until my hair grows to be this big. She is definitely the poster child for natural hair and, has been for many tears.

Curly haired Angel
Annie Llonzeh is her name and fighting crime is her game this fall, at least on the comeback of that hit ‘70s show “Charlie’s Angels”.

Blast from the past
Do you remember this face? Yes, it’s Karyn Parson but better known as Ms. Hillary Banks from “The Fresh Prince of Bellaire”. I always admired her curls growing up but to find out that her curls were actually texturized all the way until last summer.

I know you recognize this face ladies, even if you don’t know his real name. Gary Dourdon from recent movie “Jumping the Broom” use to rock dreads but cut it off in recent years. It definitely didn’t take away from his handsomely good looks. Wouldn’t you agree?

50 cent is even trying out the TWA (teeny, weeny afro) for size. So FashionOHMY and, Knaps Unisex salon wonder if being natural is even unconventional anymore because it’s catching on like wild fire.

Mr.Legend and Mr.Kravitz make growning your hair out for black men a new and sexy trend.

I would like to thank these celebrities and all the others that decided that being organically you is okay too. Knaps Unisex Salon proudly service naturals with an abundance of options to choose from and,are well educated in caring for our hair. Book an appointment today with us at (718)467-5175. Labor Day style inspiration: FashionOHMY & Knaps’ got you covered

Labor Day is on Monday, September 5th and the weekend of this holiday is like summer’s going away party. Barbeques and, soiree’s including J’ouvert, A pre-dawn festivity of music and, costumes which ends just before the West Indian- American Day Parade. This is how the threshold between summer and, fall is traditionally celebrated. What is a celebration without beauty and fashion? These aspects are vital and will be displayed this upcoming weekend. I came up with some tips and outfit suggestions to accessorize your hairdo.
Look 1:
I suggest wearing summer pieces not worn yet or not often and pairing it with fall pieces like a blazer or vest to add warmth and, be sure to accessorize. This sassy haircut is both summer and fall appropriate.

Look 2:
A long hairdo with asymmetrical bangs to kick it up will stand out. A dress cut out in the waist with some killer platforms is carnival ready.

Look 3:
I can’t forget my locked hair beauties. I love this updo for you. Look sexy yet sophisticated while keeping your long tresses off your shoulders during the warm weather. A pop of neon for the West Indian day parade will highlight the event.

Whatever look you decide to choose be sure to visit Knaps’ Unisex salon to match it with style and grace. Have fun and always be safe. Contact us at (718) 467-5175. Be sure to like us on Facebook.com/Knapsunisex and follow us on Twitter.com/Knapsunisex. See you there.

Hair Evolution of Venus and Serena Williams

The tennis US Open is fast approaching and Knaps Unisex is ready to transform you to be camera ready for this upcoming event beginning August 29th- September 11th. I decided to highlight the Williams sisters for reason that their hairstyles throughout the years have donned tennis courts all around the world. In the beginning of their career wearing braided styles embellished with beads to luxurious hair extensions. Ranked in the top five in the world for the past two years, the prodigal Williams sisters have stunned the world. The key to their game is fast serves and strong returns that exhaust their opponents on the court. Another aspect to their fame was their daring hairstyles. The superstar siblings are turning heads with their return. Take a look at the fierce duo off and on the court throughout their career.
Beginning of an era
The duo proudly wore braided hairstyles representing ethnic hairstyles in a mainstream world.

The famous box braids extensions
This hairstyle isn’t new but these beauties made it their own. I noticed this style making its way back this fall but with medium sized braids and waist long lengths.

Unyielding Beauty

Model behavior
Venus and Serena grace the runways and fashion events.

Updated Tresses
Serena’s short look is great with an old Hollywood feel but, her weave extensions takes sexy to the next level.

Venus follows suit wearing a hairdo with side swept bangs which frames her face perfectly. She also worked the red carpet with her chic dress and long curly hairstyle.

Here at Knaps Unisex we support our divas off and on court. Which look will be yours? Come join us during US Open to get an inspiring hairdo to influence others in a positive way. Contact us @ (718)467-5175. Like us on facebook.com/KnapsUnisex and, follow us on twitter.com/KnapsUnisex.

Fall 2011: Trendy colors for your best face forward.

From flip flops and tank tops to sweaters, scarves and, gloves. Summer is nearly gone, now it’s time to fall with something new to love… Fall’s most flattering makeup colors. It is sure to make any girl blush and in a rush, because it’s the race to an amazing face.
I searched in anticipation for the latest makeup to show off this fall and here were my findings.
Violet eyeliner
Violet eyeliner will be sure to show off your peepers, by making brown eyes richer, greens greener and blues more intense.

Navy and gold eye shadows
Navy isn’t just for sailors and school uniforms. It looks especially gorgeous on brown eyes. Gold catches the light and makes it a good pairing by adding an accent.

Magenta lipstick
This vivacious pink- and- purple blend is unique and, works on all skin tones.

Blackened green eye shadow
Metallic green with an added touch of black puts a sexy spin on Smokey eyes. * Be striking for evening by pairing it with pale or burgundy lips.

Russet red blush
We all love that natural flush we get during crisp autumn weather after our outdoor workout routine or that walk we briskly take on our way to work. Get that same look with this color blush but, be sure to apply with a light hand.

Sea- foam green eye shadow
This color will be sure to brighten your day or give that pop of color you need to add to your outfit.

Baby Pink gloss
Baby pink gloss will give lips an ultra-feminine tint.
