Oh corduroy, how I love thee!
My mom gave me a gift the day before her birthday. It came from the depths of our shared closet. She had to reach so far in to get it; I thought she would find her way to Narnia, lol. This gift was accidental and in fact a hand me down.
It all began in my hot mess of a room. An added piece of needed furniture was put into my room so things needed to be moved around, reorganized, and cleaned out. I can’t for some reason do this without making my room a mess in the process. When I do this I usually see what need to be thrown away or possibly donated to good will. My mom thought she would help out by seeing what of her belongings she can remove from our over capacitated closet. I have to say like many of us when we were little girls. I looked up to my mom and fashion was a big aspect by dressing up in her clothes. I adored her style and I know that her choice in clothing was a big influence on what pieces I find stylish and cool.
She pulled out what I felt was almost like gold to me. I’ve seen it a million times just sitting there waiting to be worn in which I believed would be in vain due to the fact that my mom is good in buying great pieces but fail to wear them more than a few times. It was a brown corduroy trench coat that she purchased from the gap maybe a couple of years ago. She asked if I wanted it. I hastened to answer yes but, quickly realized that there was a big hole in this situation. It was at least two sizes too big, and then mother came with an optimistic thought. “Just get it taken in at the tailors”, it was all smiles from then on. I fell in love with my new article of clothing. I fantasized how I would wear it and where and what situation I would be in. I imagined my coat in one of my favorite novels growing up. Narnia: “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe”. I would wear it with cool accessories. I actually took the time to style it…what can you say I was inspired.
Bring corduroy back this season with stylish downtown glam. Get this look with Navy blue denim over cream colored laced peep toe wedge boots; a gray oversized V-neck sweater will give the outfit a sexy tomboyish look. Flip sunglasses and gold studded shoulder bag makes it vintage cool. A fox fur stole will give this great outfit old Hollywood glam instantly.
